FEMA Individual Assistance
If you were affected by Hurricane Laura, there is help for you.
Grant Parish was added to the list of parishes eligible for Individual Assistance from FEMA. If your home suffered damages, please register with FEMA for assistance at www.disasterassistance.gov. The deadline to apply is October 27, 2020, so please register early. It is important that if your property that was damaged is covered by homeowners insurance, that you file a claim with your insurance company. FEMA will not cover losses covered by insurance.
Survivors who purchased or rented a generator and/or chainsaw as a result of Hurricane Laura may be able to receive FEMA reimbursement.
FEMA cannot reimburse equipment paid for by another source, such as homeowner’s, flood, or other types of insurance. Duplicate payments or reimbursements for assistance provided by insurance or any other source are prohibited by law.
Survivors interested in generator and/or chainsaw reimbursement from FEMA must first register. They may do so by going online to disasterassistance.gov, downloading the FEMA mobile app or calling the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 or TTY 800-462-7585. Multilingual operators are available. Those who use 711 or Video Relay Service may call 800-621-3362.
Applicants who purchase or rent a generator and/or chainsaw within 30 days after the incident start date of Aug. 22, may be eligible to receive financial assistance for reimbursement if:

The applicant meets the general eligibility requirements for FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program.

The home is the applicant’s primary residence and is located in a parish designated for the Individuals and Households Program. As of Sept. 8, designated parishes are Acadia, Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Grant, Jackson, Jefferson Davis, Lincoln, Morehouse, Natchitoches, Ouachita, Rapides, Sabine, Union, Vermilion, Vernon and Winn.

The generator was purchased or rented due to a disruption in electrical utility service caused by Hurricane Laura.

Proof-of-purchase or rental receipts for the items are submitted by the applicant.
Price Limits

FEMA may reimburse applicants up to $449 for generators and up to $179.99 for chainsaws.
Generator Safety

Survivors should never use a generator inside a home, garage, basement, crawlspace or any partially enclosed area. Keep these devices outdoors, away from doors, windows and vents that could allow carbon monoxide to come indoors.
Other Reimbursable Items

FEMA may also reimburse applicants for the following items: carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, dehumidifiers, humidifiers and weather radios.
Debris Removal
The Grant Parish Police Jury has signed a contract with a debris removal contractor to safely remove and clean up debris from the edge of parish roads and city streets. Each Mayor in Grant Parish has signed onto the contract with the Police Jury, allowing the contractors to work inside of city limits.
The debris must be within 20’ of the edge of the road or street.

DSNAP
Grant Parish may be eligible for Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance or DSNAP benefits. Please visit dsnap.dcfs.la.gov/dsnap and pre-register your household. It only takes a couple of minutes and may be very beneficial to you and your family.
IF YOU DON'T RECEIVE SNAP
If you have been affected by Hurricane Laura, you can REGISTER NOW for DSNAP. Registration does not guarantee benefits, but will make the application process easier and quicker if a DSNAP is approved for your community.
IF YOU DO RECEIVE SNAP
You will receive your regular benefits early - on SEPTEMBER 1.
If you do not already receive the maximum for your household size, you also will receive a COVID emergency alllotment on SEPTEMBER 18 bringing you up to that amount. No additional benefits will be issued beyond the maximum per household size, even if a DSNAP is authorized in your community.
You may also be eligible for Replacement SNAP benefits if you lost food purchased with SNAP because your power was out for 24+ hours straight. You do not need to take any action on this right now. Sit tight, and await further information.
SNAP recipients are not eligible for DSNAP.
